Genealogists, and in truth, Historians, are a rare breed in the world today. Or at least, they're fewer than they should be. I respect anyone who attempts to unveil truth in either field.

Genealogy

Most of my lines come from the Pee-dee River Area, Lexington County, and Pickens/Oconee County areas of South Carolina, Texas, and up through the Appalachian Mountain range. All of my family is Melungeon. The Melungeons are a multiracial ethinic group. Some might call us race, but it is difficult to consider yourself a race, when your ancestors came from every race group. As many other multiracial peoples, we are not recognized as an option for race or ethnic group on most forms we have to fill out. Boy, there's a whole bunch of us of the "Other" race, isn't there? ^_^!

I am currently researching these surnames: Arledge, Barfield, Branham, Burton, Busby(Busbee), Gillespie, Harper, Hicks, Hunnicutt, Morgan, Rabon (Rabourne, orig.), Truesdale. I have records of quite a few more surnames that are tied into those main lines. Most of the lines have not been traced out of the United States. There is a family story that the Busby's and the Rabon's came from Canada before coming to the United States. If you have information on any of these lines, give me a holler!

History

While most of my history interests lie in Ancient History, but I find more "modern" history as interesting and informative about where we came from. In essence, I believe that Genealogists and Historians alike seek merely one thing, to understand who we are now and what, in our past, helped to make us that way. I plan to add more information to this page as time allows. Please be patient and come back often!
